Serenade in Bb K.361 III. Adagio - W.A. Mozart (arr. Francine Pancost) for Flute Ensemble

$22.00

The Adagio in B flat Major is the third movement of seven in the Serenade.  In Peter Shaffer's film "Amadeus" you may recall the scene in which Salieri listens to the opening of a sublime adagio, and the music makes him feel as if he were listening to the voice of God.  The music he was listening to was the opening of the third movement of Mozart's Serenade in B flat for 13 instruments, K.361.  It was dubbed the 'Gran Partita', and the nickname stuck.

The Adagio is described as a piece of passionate feeling and sensuous warmth.  In the movie Amadeus, the Adagio is described by Salieri as a "rusty squeezebox" with it's brooding, sighing melodic lines sustained above the syncopated pulse (squeezebox) occurring almost throughout the movement.  In this arrangement the melodic lines alternate between the first, third, with some fourth flute and a bit in the first Alto line.
